Calasanz originally came to the U.S. to study English at the University of Bridgeport. His popularity among the student body grew as he began displaying his martial art skills around the campus. Calasanz' television debut was on the Miss Venus beauty pageant where he performed a karate demonstration for the audience. Eventually setting in Norwalk, Calasanz got his first glimpse at American entrepreneurship when he wandered into Stew Leonard's. Not only was he inspired to start his own business, but he bought over $200 worth of vegetables! Determined to get into the best shape, he avoided fats and dairy and continued to make frequent trips to Stew Leonard's for healthier foods...so much so that the Leonard's eventually became students! "The quickest way for me to get into great shape is two weeks of heavy training and a diet that's high in vegetables and low in fats." Calasanz still uses swears by this formula today.
